Music. Song of the Week

Into the Fire

After buying Bruce Springsteen’s CD, THE RISING, right after it was released, I found that I couldn’t listen to it without sobbing. All the songs on the CD were written for 9/11, and it was just too heart-wrenching for me to listen to it.

So I got in the habit of listening to it once a year on 9/11 and just letting myself cry my eyes out. I have to confess that this song in particular still does that to me, but somehow, it also gives me hope. I thought I’d share it with you today.

May your strength give us strength

May your faith give us faith

May your hope give us hope

May your love bring us love.

Not much more to say on a day like today.

Thank You by Alanis Morisette

I’ve had this song stuck in my head ever since I heard it (for the first time in many years) in THE WAY, a movie I proselytized about in yesterday’s post.

It’s not new, but it’s still awesome. Every now and then, I just need a reminder to thank the universe for ALL the experiences that come my way, because yes, even terror and disillusionment bring growth and discovery. And what is life without those things?

Shadow Days

This week’s song is straight from me to you. I’m really loving this new one from John Mayer. He disappointed me for awhile there, but this makes me think he might just be back.

Enjoy!

Blunderbuss by Jack White

Sorry for the radio silence these last few days. I took a much-needed weekend off (after realizing I hadn’t had one since Christmas and handing in a big project Friday morning) and am still easing back into things.

Maybe the Song of the Week will help! This one was recommended by Stacee (@ivygirl702). Jack White is, in my opinion, one of the most talented musicians of our generation.

Love this! Hope you do, too.

Youth Without Youth by Metric

I had so many great song recommendations to choose from this week that I had a tough time picking one. In the end, I went with this one from Rachel. It had just the beat I needed after a loooong few weeks of writing.

Plus, I’m thinking it might help me push through the next two days, which are going to be hardcore.

I made a note of the other recommendations, though, and will choose from them for the next couple of weeks. So if you offered up a recommendation, stay tuned!

Leave the Lights On by Meiko

This week’s song was recommended last week by Cat! I loved it then but had already chosen a song of the week, so I’m giving it to you this week instead.

Hope you enjoy it and that you all are having a great week!

Let It Burn by Red

I’m SO LOVING this week’s song, Let It Burn by Red, recommended by long-time reader (and writer!), Nazarea. I chose this one because it’s a band I’ve never heard of with a sound I really love, and that’s what Song of the Week is all about.

That said, I got tons of awesome recommendations (my readers prove over and over that they have incredible taste in music), so I’ll pull from them for next week’s song, too!

Avalon by Roxy Music

This week’s song was easy to choose! That’s because it was nominated by M.D. and seconded by Laura.

What can I say? It wins by popular vote.
😉

And i have to say, I love, love, LOVE this sound. I’m sure it totally tags me as an 80s girl, but I’m okay with that.

Enjoy!
